Château et Parc de Josselin

JOSSELIN

    Site et monument historique

The Château de Josselin, the home of the Rohan family since the late 14th century, has preserved traces of its medieval past with its three towers that dominate the Valley of the Oust and its former moat. On the courtyard side, it is the Renaissance and its refinement that are on display with a sculpted granite facade rich in multiple ornaments and surprising details. On the terrace, you can see the mark left by the Wars of Religion. The interiors, which are fully furnished, testify to the aristocratic lifestyle of the late 19th century. The furniture and objects exhibited in the Château trace both the history of the family and that of decorative arts. Among them, we can cite a painting by Hyacinthe Rigaud, a bust by Auguste Rodin, or a 18th century cylinder desk with preserved marquetry decoration. Outside, 3 hectares of landscaped gardens offer a stroll with its French garden, its rose garden with multiple varieties, its century-old trees and its English park crossed by a stream. Finally, the former stables house the Museum of Dolls and Toys, inaugurated in 1984 from the historical collection of the Duchess Herminie de Rohan.
