Accompanied by songs and instrumental music, the fest-noz promises an intense conviviality between the artists, the dancers and the public that joins the round. The intergenerational mix and the opening to the others characterize particularly this cultural movement breton in full expansion. THE ORIGINS OF FEST-NOZ Invented in the 50’s to recreate the festive gatherings of the peasant society which punctuated the days of collective work, the festnoz became in the 70’s a real fashion phenomenon! Organized around numerous Celtic circles and inspired by the modern concept of the ball, the movement has been most successful since the 2000s. It has become a real urban event that is exported beyond Brittany, in France and abroad. A TRADITION REGISTERED IN THE INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE OF HUMANITY Did you know that since 2012, the fest-noz is registered as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO?
